Identification band

To ensure your safety, patients, including babies, will be required to wear patient Identification (ID) band at all times while staying in hospital. This ID band will be red in colour if you have any allergies.

ID bands are used to confirm our patients identity. The staff will ask you to tell them your name, date of birth and if you have any allergies. This will be checked against the information against your ID band and medical record.

ID bands will be checked multiple times during your stay to ensure we are providing you with the correct care and treatment.

If you are going into theatre for a procedure you will have two ID bands placed on different limbs.

Please let the staff caring for you know if:
  • you or your baby do not have an ID band
  • the information on the ID band is incorrect
  • the ID band falls off
  • it is uncomfortable or becomes soiled.
