April 1, 2020

Our nearest COVID clinic is at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

The clinic is open between the hours of 8am – 8pm, seven days a week.  There are also COVID Clinics at Fiona StanleyRoyal PerthArmadale and Rockingham General hospitals.

As of Thursday 2nd April, the testing criteria for COVID-19 will be expanded significantly at all COVID clinics.

General Public Testing

Any person presenting to a COVID clinic with BOTH a documented fever (≥38°C) AND an acute respiratory infection (e.g. shortness of breath, cough, sore throat) will be tested.

High-Risk Staff Testing

Anyone working within a high-risk setting that presents to a COVID clinic with EITHER a fever (≥38°C) OR an acute respiratory infection will be tested. This includes healthcare workers (including aged care and disability workers) and WA Police Officers.

High-Risk Settings

Testing will also be arranged for anyone from the following high risk settings where two or more people are experiencing EITHER a fever (≥38°C) OR an acute respiratory infection:

  • Aged and residential care
  • Rural and remote Aboriginal communities
  • Detention centres
  • Correctional facilities
  • Boarding schools
  • Military barracks or equivalent
  • Geographically localised areas with increased risk of community transmission
  • Cruise ship passengers or returned travellers (international and domestic).

Patients will be screened and where appropriate tested, provided with appropriate information and referred for further medical treatment if necessary. The criteria for testing will be updated according to changes in the disease pattern in WA.

People who do not meet the criteria will not be tested.

People who are tested and well enough will be asked to self-isolate while they await test results, which is generally 48 hours. Anyone who is confirmed to have COVID-19 who does not require hospitalisation will be asked to stay in home isolation as instructed by the public health team.

The community is reminded that the clinics are not intended to replace the medical care available through their GP.

If you are seriously unwell outside of clinic hours please visit your nearest emergency department or call 000 for urgent attention.
