Perinatal Loss Service at KEMH

Loss of your baby at any stage of pregnancy, or shortly after, can be difficult, you may be experiencing a wide range of feelings and trying to make decisions that are both important and unexpected.

The staff at King Edward Memorial Hospital acknowledge your loss and offer our condolences. We want to assist you by providing information that will help you understand our philosophy of care as well as support and provide comfort to you and your family.

The Perinatal Loss Service offers a state-wide tertiary consultancy service to support health care professionals who provide clinical care to women experiencing perinatal and pregnancy loss.

A Perinatal Loss Clinic has been established at KEMH to provide information and ongoing support for women and their families following the loss of their baby/babies. The team comprises of obstetricians, midwives, paediatricians, pastoral care, social workers, perinatal pathologists and psychologists.

The clinic is held every second Wednesday afternoon  in the West Wing Clinic, Ground Floor, A Block, KEMH. It is booked for approximately 6-8 weeks post delivery.

Grief Support

Community supports for families include General Practitioners, Child Health or Community Nurses / Midwife, Aboriginal and other Health Care workers, and Religious Chaplains.

Greif support agencies that provide 24 hr a day bereavement support to families who suffer the sudden unexpected loss of a pregnancy / baby, regardless of cause include:
