Vulvoscopy Clinic (vulval clinic)

Role of service

WNHS offers a comprehensive diagnostic, treatment and management service for WA women with vulval issues, including a history of vulval dyplasia or chronic vulval skin conditions (such as lichen sclerosis).


Clinical inclusion

  • History of vulval dysplasia
  • Chronic vulval skin condition
  • Lichen sclerosis.


Clinical exclusion

Obvious clinical cancer of the vulva, vagina or cervix – refer urgently to WNHS after discussion with On Call Gynaecology Registrar.


Frequency of clinic

Three vulvoscopy clinics per month.


Referral to include

  • Results of any previous biopsy.
  • Information regarding current and previous treatment.
  • Full medical history, including other skin conditions, medications and allergies.
  • Request for vulvoscopy clinic.


Urgent referral

If review is required within 7 days, contact the Gynaecology On Call Registrar (or On Call Consultant if the case is complex) via WNHS at KEMH Switchboard (08) 6458 2222.


Referral process

All referrals from GPs to this clinic are sent to the Central Referral Service WA (CRS). Ensure you provide the relevant information in the referral to enable appropriate triage, including required investigation results and letters from treating medical practitioners if relevant and request vulvoscopy clinic at WNHS.

Referrals using GP software that include all the relevant history and information are also welcome using CRS referral form templates (external site).
