WNHS Mental Health Service – Outpatient and Consultation Liaison
WNHS Mental Health Service Outpatient and Consultation Liaison can provide care for:
- women accessing obstetric services and up to 12 months after the birth of baby, including if your baby is in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
- women accessing gynaecology and gynaecology oncology services based on individual needs.
- women with complex mental health issues who are planning a pregnancy.
The Outpatient and Consultation Liaison includes mental health services provided by psychiatrists, clinical psychologists and mental health nurses.
Our team provide specialist support to women as they manage their mental health.
WNHS Mental Health Service provide inpatient and outpatient consultations facilitated by face-to-face, video-link and telephone appointments. The sorts of things we can help with are:
- when a person's medical condition or pregnancy is impacting on their mental health.
- mental health support for women to enhance coping and emotional wellbeing where there is a known risk of mood, anxiety or other mental illness concerns or complications arising from their gynaecological health or pregnancy.
- pre-conception assessment regarding management of complex mental health issues in pregnancy is another service offered by our service.

- Can I self-refer?
Yes, or you can be referred throughout any stage of your care at King Edward Memorial Hospital, via your General Practitioner, Child Health Nurses, other community services or the Mother Baby Unit. - Can I bring my newborn baby to the appointment?
Yes, you can bring your baby. - Do you have crèche facilities available?
Yes, the hospital offers a crèche service free of charge for children aged 2 months to 6 years. The creche is open from 8.05 am to 3.45pm Monday to Friday and no booking is required. - Does the appointment incur any charges?
If you have a valid Medicare card, the appointment is free of charge. - Overseas visitors
Hospital fees for patients who are not eligible for Medicare are set by the WA Department of Health. Overseas visitors and overseas students are required to pay for the cost of their care. Calls made to the Maternal Fetal Assessment Unit (MFAU) by Medicare ineligible patients, such as overseas visitors and overseas students, will incur a charge.
