Alcohol

Alcohol is the most prevalent drug used in Western Australia and causes the second greatest amount of drug-related harm, with only tobacco causing more harm.

The East Metropolitan Health Service Health Promotion team works with stakeholders to reduce alcohol related harm through influencing both the supply of alcohol and the demand for alcohol.

Projects

Cities of Armadale, Canning and Gosnells Alcohol Action Plan

Reduction of alcohol related harms requires a coordinated response across government and not for profit organisations.

This action plan (PDF 3.6MB) is the first of its kind to work across three metropolitan local government regions.

In partnership with the Mental Health Commission, we are leading the development of this plan with the active participation of the respective local governments, WA Police Force and non-government service providers. Over 20 partners have been involved in the development of the plan.

Aboriginal Youth Health Program

This program is a culturally appropriate program delivered in schools which is designed to increase Aboriginal young people’s knowledge of alcohol and tobacco related harms and the dangers of risky sexual behaviour and associated services.
